Microcity

Privacy policy

Last updated 27 August 2026

Microcity is in development and is not yet open to the public. This policy describes what the platform does today and will be reviewed by a solicitor before launch.

Who we are

Microcity is a marketplace for electrical goods sold by independent UK shops and private sellers. For questions about your information, write to help@microcity.co.uk.

What we collect

Buyers. Name, email address, delivery address and order history. Payment card details are handled by our payment provider and never reach our servers.

Sellers. Contact details, trading address, and — for businesses — company and VAT registration numbers. For private sellers we also collect date of birth and a tax identifier, because UK law requires online marketplaces to report seller income to HMRC.

Everyone. Basic technical information from your browser needed to serve the site securely.

Connected eBay accounts

A seller may choose to connect their eBay account so their listings appear here automatically. When they do, we store an access token issued by eBay, encrypted, and use it only to read that seller’s own listings and to update the stock quantity on listings they have linked. We do not read their messages, their orders, or anything belonging to their buyers. A seller can disconnect at any time from their eBay account settings or by asking us, and we delete the stored token when they do.

What we do with it

To take and fulfil orders, to pay sellers, to keep unsafe and prohibited goods off the platform, to answer questions, and to meet legal obligations — principally HMRC seller reporting and product safety record-keeping.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who else sees it

A seller receives the delivery details needed to send your order, and nothing more. Our payment provider processes payments. Our hosting is in the United Kingdom. Where a regulator or the law requires disclosure, we comply.

How long we keep it

Order and seller records are kept for six years, as tax and product-safety record-keeping require. Accounts closed before then keep only what those obligations need.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and object to certain uses. Write to help@microcity.co.uk. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
